Arlene Therese Farinas, beloved daughter and sister, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018. Arlene was born August 7, 1974 in Marion, Indiana, daughter of the late Dr. Nicomedes Tolentino Farinas and Lolita Valera Farinas. She and her two sisters, Lynette and Jenie, grew up in Peru, Indiana and graduated from North Miami High School.
While growing up in Peru, Indiana, Arlene knew she wanted to pursue medicine like her father. She proudly graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2002. Arlene was also a Navy veteran and went on to a general surgery residency program at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego. Arlene spent the remaining years of her life in southern California before recently relocating back to Indiana.
Arlene enjoyed traveling and had a great appreciation for different cultures. She loved writing, music and comedy, especially Seinfeld. Arlene was also a football fanatic. After finally giving up on the Chicago Bears, she later became a devoted Colts and Peyton Manning fan.
Arlene overcame many challenges in her life and will be remembered for her perseverance, strength and courage. She will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, www.nami.org/Get-Involved/Donate.
A memorial service for Arlene will be held at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W. Moore Chapel at 8151 Allisonville Road in Indianapolis on Monday, October 1. Visitation will be from 2-3pm and a service will follow at 3pm.

As Arlene’s younger cousin, I looked up to her growing up. I admired her for her accomplishments, talent, and her courage. She also had a fun and silly side and I will remember her that way. Jason and I pray for cousins Jenie and Lynette and the rest of the family during this difficult time.
Love,
Melissa and Jason
